Ashton Rose Estate Agents open their doors for the first time in Westbury on Trym and are excited about establishing themselves as part of the Village Business Community.
Liz Atkinson, the newly appointed Branch Manager says, "When we chose Westbury on Trym as the location for our second Branch we were aware of the Village suffering from recent independent shop closures." She went on to say, "In these difficult trading conditions there doesn’t seem much to celebrate, however so we can get to know our neighbours better on Friday 23rd October we would welcome anyone who wishes to drop in"
On 23rd October, Ashton Rose are running a "Guess the Value of the House Competition", so drop in and meet Liz and her team, enjoy a drink and some nibbles and try your luck at winning a luxury weekend break at the Celtic Manor Resort.
Ashton Rose Estate Agents welcomes local business people and residents between 11am and 6pm on 23rd October.
Following the recent success of Trading Local in Bedminster earlier this year, several local residents in Westbury on Trym have got together to see if they can generate the same levels of enthusiasm in the Village of Westbury on Trym.
Liz Atkinson, Branch Manager of Ashton Rose Estate Agents who open on Canford Lane in the Village on 19th October comments, "This is an exciting community initiative and Ashton Rose are pleased to have the opportunity to help with an event that will see local businesses working together on returning the Village to a vibrant commercial it once was".
Trading Local is live street theatre -5 minute stories performed in local shops by professional actors from the "Show of Strength Theatre Company". The dramatic monologues will be performed in 12 to 18 local shops, 3 times during the day by 6 actors. They will be performed as a day event in Westbury on Trym on Saturday 24th April 2010.
To create the stories there will be a series of community writing workshops to take place in February and the early March 2010. Though it is hoped these will involve a wide range of people who like writing and telling stories, Trading Local hopes they will appeal to 13 to 18 year olds and the older residents of Westbury on Trym.
Trading Local gets people talking, writing and thinking about their local shops. It provides an opportunity to really focus on Westbury as a Village and provide a vital community resource in helping to regenerate and support independent retail initiatives in a period of economic difficulty.
The event will aim to involve the whole community both in the workshops and attending the performances on the day.
It will also be great fun! Many of the independent shops have an interesting history. The workshops will identify and retell stories originating in the community and use people’s imagination and creativity to help to help rebuild the vitality that once existed in Westbury on Trym.
The event is in the early planning stages so anyone that wishes to lend a hand should contact Sue Boyd through the Westbury on Trym Society.
